AYSO Region 42 - Newbury Park EXTRA Program

What is AYSO Extra?

AYSO Extra is a soccer program that is geared to those players who want a higher level of competition and training but do not want to play Club soccer. Extra teams will be formed by each region in Area 10E and Section 10. The Extra teams will play against each other during the Fall soccer season (10 - 14 games) and will have League Cup playoffs at the end of the season in addition to inter-sectional tournaments, Cal Cup in the spring.

What teams will be formed?

It is the desire of Region 42 form at least one Extra team for each of Boys and Girls in the U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15 divisions. Players may try out for any team within their age bracket.

Who will coach the team?

The teams will be coached by a volunteer coach (just like we do for regular AYSO). Applications to coach an Extra team are due by February 14, 2011 with interviews scheduled for the end of February 2011. Coaches will be announced shortly after interviews are complete.

Will there be professional trainers?

Each team will be required to utilize a professional trainer from an approved list provided by Region 42, and to use the budget they are allotted for player development. Over 60% of the registration fee will comprise the budget for the trainers. An alternative trainer option will be available.

What is the registration fee?

The registration fee for 2011 will be approximately $350 for new players, which includes the primary season registration and league fees, League Cup fees, higher quality home/away uniform, socks, NP EXTRA program practice t-shirt in addition to trainer fees.

How long will the season last?

Once teams are registered and coaches approved by AYSO CVPA and National, teams may begin practicing and with Regional Comissioner approval, participate in tournament play. Spring play is NOT mandatory and costs not included in EXTRA Program and registration fees for 2011. Furthermore, teams may not conflict with existing All-Star/tournament teams. There is no practice in July.

The Extra Program fall Season with start on August 27, 2011. Newbury Park does not have field permits, therefore, expect to travel this weekend for play. The regular league season is 12-14 games ending in November and League Cup playoffs in January. Winners and Runner-Up in League Cup may be invited to the Cal State Cup held in March and Winners and Runners-Up may be invited to the Extra National Cups held in June. Newly formed teams may also participate in Spring and Summer AYSO as well as Cal South Sanctioned tournaments with the permission of the Regional Commissioner.

Will there be tournaments after the Fall Season?

Yes. Extra teams will be allowed to participate in pre and post-season tournaments and AYSO invitational tournaments which will take place starting in August. The cost to enter into each of these tournaments will run $35 to $45 per player per tournament. These costs are in addition to the Fall League season program fees. Teams that desire to participate in post season play must be in good standing with the region and in compliance with requirement for volunteer hours.

How do players get chosen for the Extra team?

Player for the EXTRA program are selected through a competitive tryout process. No player is guaranteed a position on a team based on participation in a previous year. Players who are interested in playing on an Extra team should attend the tryouts at that will be scheduled in the spring. Pre-registration for AYSO players from the 2010 Fall season is not necessary. They just need to complete an EXTRA Program tryout form and show up prepared with water, cleats and shin guards for the tryouts.

Players who did not enroll and play in the Fall 2010 season will need to complete an EXTRA Program Tryout form and pay a registration fee of $20.00 to cover the cost of insurance through AYSO. If selected, these players will be registered in the current AYSO season and with Regional Commission's approval, become eligible for tournament play before Fall season starts.

The selection process includes a committee may consist of, but is not limited to a coach (input only), professional trainer and region staff members. Players who are selected for the team will be notifiedby the coach shortly after the completion of tryouts. Registration will take place shortly thereafter. Players selected for a team will received more detailed information at that time.

How many players will be on a team?

This will be just like the regular AYSO season, so the number of players on a team will be as follows:

U10 - 9 or 10 players
U11/U12 - 12 players
U13/14 - 14 or 15 players
U15 - up to 18 players on a roster

Tryout dates, forms and instructions will be posted on the AYSONPEXTRA website.

Can players tryout for EXTRA teams if they aren't already registered with AYSO?

Yes. AYSO has a new form for non-AYSO registered participants to fill out and sign to permit them to participate in a limited AYSO activity without being registered for the complete Membership Year. The form includes an emergency authorization and other legal provisions to protect AYSO and provide insurance coverage in the event of an injury during the tryout. The form must be completed and submitted with fee at the Extra Program tryout session.

  • WE'RE LOOKING FOR ENTHUSIASTIC YOUTH REFEREES

AYSO youth referees in Newbury Park help officiate our younger divisions. They start with U7/8 games and as their confidence grows they move up to refereeing U10 games.

To become a referee you must be at least 12 years old and you must complete an AYSO referee clinic. The clinics will teach you the laws of the game and prepare you to go onto the fields and referee lower division games.

Youth referees can earn community service credit for attending clinics and refereeing games.

See the Youth Referee Information Flyer for more information and how to get started!
